Electric cigarettes have become quite popular these days. These cigarettes are much less harmful as compared to any other kind of cigarettes. Therefore, they have become much popular over such a small time. There might be many companies making electric cigarettes now but in the beginning there was only one company that made these cigarettes. The question however is- how were the first electric cigarettes produced? Who came up with the concept of an electric cigarette for the first time?
The first electronic cigarette was made in the year 1963. A gentleman named Herbert A. Gilbert came up with the concept of electronic cigarettes and got it patented too. However, he could not start the production of electric cigarettes on a commercial level primarily because of two reasons- firstly; the technology was not advanced enough to start the commercial manufacturing of these cigarettes and secondly because back in 1960s, tobacco was not considered a harmful thing. Thus, though Herbert came up with the concept of electric cigarettes, he never could materialize their production. The first electric cigarette was produced only in 2003 by a Chinese Pharmacist Hon Lik. Since then, the electric cigarette has gained wide popularity amidst all smokers, especially those who wish to quit smoking.
