In this era of technology electric motors plays an important role in daily life. They are used in almost every appliance. They are used in simple wrist watch as well as in industrial equipments. We are totally dependent on them. Its major function is to convert the electric energy into mechanical energy. There are two types of electric motors: Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) electric motors. DC electric motors were invented earlier.

DC motors runs on the direct power supply. They have five components: a commutator, a field magnet, an axle, a rotor, brushes (optional). The pair of electromagnets is called the rotor. The axle is connected with the rotor and the commutator. Three terminals are placed accordingly. A plate on the commutator is wired up with the terminals. The major function of the field magnet is to form a magnetic radiation and allows the rotor to react with it. Different types of DC motors are used in different types of machines. When your mobile phone is in vibrating mode, a small motor inside allows the mobile to vibrate. Other kinds of DC motors are used in washers, hair dryers, electronic gadgets, etc.
