With the advancement of technology, hearing aids have become smaller and more effective. The primal function of hearing aids is to capture the electrical waves and amplify them and hence the volume is increased so that it becomes easier for the user to listen. Several hearing aid types have been developed. They come in various shapes and sizes to suit the need of the person. The different hearing aid types are Behind-The-Ear (BTE), In-The-Ear (ITE), In-The-Canal (ITC), Completely-In-Canal (CIC), Mini-Canal (MC) and Post-Auricular-Canal (PAC). The different hearing aid types differ in their position of placement against the ear and how much they are noticeable. BTE can be noticed most and it lies just behind the ear, ITE is less noticeable and rests outside the inner ear, ITC is least noticed and lies inside the canal and hence provides better hearing aid.
The most recent advancement in the field of hearing aids is the use of digital hearing aids. It was the in the year 1987 that digital hearing aids came into use. These devices use computer technologies to analyze the signals and amplify them. Digital hearing aids are far better than analog amplifiers as they filter out the unwanted noises and provide clear signals. Digital hearing aids are very much in use and they come in all sizes to best suit the user.
